Bulova Snorkel – Light Dive

Ceramic is taking over in some other brands as well, and today we are going to talk about Bulova Snorkel which was displayed on recent Inhorgenta exhibition. The whole idea here is rather straightforward – take classic design, update it with new materials and colors and put attractive price tag. All this sounds good, but for me it was interesting to check the newcomer in person. I have to note that there will be several colors available, and you can see them all in the video-review below.
Here you can read about another interesting watch from Inhorgenta.

Dial

My attention was caught with orange “Clownfish” version, but there will be also Aqua, Blue and Grey options available. Yes, I show them in the video too. Whole styling is rather simple and elegant, so orange version comes with white dial and applied indices. Careful look will help you see that the surface isn’t smooth and carries some additional imprint. This doesn’t look like something out of place, and I think it is good for such design.

There are no digits, only applied indices, but this follows the styling of the classic diver watches. All elements are quite large and easy to find. Luminiscent fill is also here, but don’t expect something out of the world. Handset is also simple, but I like how seconds hand has different color depending on the version you would pick. Note that date window is also on the dial, but somehow it is not that annoying as on some other dials. Maybe the overall light color makes it easier to get everything into one composition.

Note that amount of writings is reduced to minimum, and that is quite cool because whole design stays clean. Whole dial is covered with mineral glass, even though you can find some competitors with sapphire on top. By the way, size of this watch is 41mm, so you won’t have any issues with legibility. Now it might be the right moment to talk about case.

Case

As it was mentioned already, case is made out of ceramic and has its special texture and light weight. Bulova calls it Hybrid Ceramic and promises better protection as well as reduced weight. Well, overall it feels okay, even though the watch is too light to my taste. It might be good for summer season though, when it is not fun to have something heavy on your hand. I didn’t have weight with me to measure how many grams in this timepiece, but I would say it is around 40-50.

Nevertheless, if you flip over the watch, it is easy to notice that not the whole case is made out ceramic as there is a steel caseback cover. I guess such design was used to stay true to diver watches and have a bit more durable design. Of course, this part also features engraving depending on which color version you will pick. Water protection is at 100m and should be okay for everyday use.

It is hard not to notice that Bulova Snorkel comes with steel crown. It jumps out of the whole image and maybe even too shiny for my own taste. Well, at least it is easy to handle, and you won’t have any problems here. Take more careful look and you will notice Bulova logo which is finished in vintage style.

Strap and Movement

Inside you will find Miyota 2115 quartz movement. This caliber is well-known, and you will get all basic functions which you would expect in such watch. Date indication is also here, so crown is adjusted in two positions.

As for the strap, it is quite flexible and as high quality as on other Bulova watches. Here you won’t get any unpleasant surprises.

Bulova Snorkel – Price and Availability

Price will be set at 300 EUR, and this is not a Limited Edition. Moreover, I expect that we will see more colors and editions in the future. To sum up, this is quite an interesting option for a summer watch on your wrist. Bright colors and light weight should be fun to wear. Moreover, whole design promises to stay sturdy and survive wear and tear. The only thing to consider is that there are some competitors available from different brands, so it might be hard to make the final choice after you check all options. For me it is interesting to see Bulova also using ceramic and who knows, maybe we will see chronos in this material too. 😉

By the way, on the last photos you can see a bit more serious diver in bronze. Stay tuned, I hope it would be possible to do a proper review on this one.
