Zenith Pilot Type 20 Extra Special Silver – Flying Shine

Here we have another long name – Zenith Pilot Type 20 Extra Special Silver. This is new Limited Edition of the well-known model from Swiss watchmaker. Well, name hints on the main feature of this watch – silver case. New version is actually first model in Zenith lineup which actually features genuine silver 925 material. As you can guess, this addition also had influence on the overall perception of this watch. I had a chance to play with new version and ready to share few insights with you.

High Flyer

First of all I have to admit that I am not huge fan of shiny things, so I may be a bit biased. In the article you can see photos of the real watch, so it would be interesting to know your opinion. Nevertheless, new edition is quite shiny and I mean it. While previous models were issued in patina cases or some dark materials, this one just screams that it is made out of real silver. Here comes the most interesting feature – this material will get patina with time. Just like rings or bracelets, case here will become dark in some spots. Such thing will make each watch truly unique. Huge crown is also here, so it should be easy to adjust the time on your watch.

Strap Features

Yes, I decided to dedicate separate section to the strap. While all internal components are similar to what we see in other models, leather strap looks a bit strange to me. Yes, it is made out of calf skin and quite soft, what makes it easy to wear everyday. Nevertheless, designers decided to add extra bit – separate tab with rivet which should remind of the same element on the pilot helmets. Well, I am not sure if this was necessary, but one thing is obvious – it will catch sleeves of your coat/jacket or any other clothes which you will wear with this watch. Of course, there is no functionality, it is more of design feature which is not that useful in real life. I would rather remove it and use some smooth strap without any extra bits sticking out.

Zenith Pilot Type 20 Extra Special Silver – Availability

As far as I know at the moment of Baselworld exhibition all 250 pieces were sold out. Yes, watch got warm welcome by the fans, so if you want one – be ready to search for it. In my opinion this is just a start, so don’t be surprised if next year we will see chrono version with silver case. 🙂
