This review will be focused on something different from typical subjects on this website. Yes, we are going to talk about handy accessory which is named as Kraftgeek iPhone MagSafe Tripod. I started shooting a lot on iPhone lately, so it was interesting to try out this tool and see if it will be handy. Overall idea is quite straightforward – sturdy accessory with MagSafe attachment and remote control. Nevertheless, my previous experience with some accessories wasn’t so brilliant, so it will be worth checking out what is the case here.

Design
As you can see, my tripod comes in black color. There are two more colors available – white and peach. For me it was more important to keep the strict unassuming look of the equipment as I have almost everything in black. Accessory comes in matte plastic, which should be more resistant to everyday damage if any. Note that amount of writings is reduced to possible, and this also helps to keep the strict look.
My model is named as JustTap as it auto-retracts as soon as you hit the bottom switch/button. Whole mechanism is spring-loaded and works every time flawlessly. Note that angle can be adjusted if needed, but the retractable section extends on the thin pole.
All the joints are adjusted in a smooth motion, so it is possible to set the angle precisely. MagSafe section is finished in glossy finish, probably, to highlight the feature, but it could be good to have a choice in matte too… Whole head is adjusted on two joints, so there is no problem even to shoot selfies while holding this tripod in hand.
Control section is raised over the whole structure for ease of use. Moreover, you can detach the remote control for shooting from distance. It is a classic bluetooth remote, but it is handy even for doing selfies. Whole surface is finished in rubber-like soft touch, what helps with pressing buttons precisely.
In Use
As I wrote before, for me it was important to use this tripod for shooting photos and videos. Nevertheless, its lightweight design makes it handy for shooting some shots from raised point of view. It is not exactly comparable with what you will get from drone, but still different from just shooting with your hand.
Deploying the tripod also wasn’t an issue as well as folding it back. It is good to see metal used in all important parts, this should provide some additional sturdiness.
MagSafe attachment is quite strong here, and you can see it in the video-review as well. Note that it is used only for holding the phone, and there is no charging or else. Who knows, maybe this is something what might come in the next generation. Keep in mind that it would also increase weight of the whole device. By the way, there is also additional metal ring provided in case your phone doesn’t have MagSafe inside.
I used tripod for shooting occasionally as well as doing table shots as well. Once deployed, it stands firmly, and I didn’t have any issue with it toppling over. Remote control is easy to use once paired, and works without problems. I don’t know why all shots show people using front camera for selfies on this tripod. In my opinion it is actually good for taking group shots with main camera, as you will approximately know where and how to point it.
As for the numbers, the full extension gives you 168cm of length, and tripod itself weights 450g. In collapsed position it is only 33cm, so easy to pack with you in a typical bag.

All three colors are available right now for around 45-50USD, and for this price you can expect quite a universal thing. It works not only as a classic tripod, but also as handy monopod and selfie-stick with remote control. This feature is also handy for some distance shots while your phone will be standing firmly on this device.
I like the whole idea and how it is designed as well as materials. It proved to be useful in everyday use, and I recommend it for those who like to vlog or take photos with their phone. For me it was enough to have the classic tripod design, but you can go further and order so-called Power Shutter. This will give you additional battery as well camera controls just like on typical mirrorless. As you can guess, the whole assembly will be a bit more bulky, but for some use cases it might come handy.
I hope Kraftgeek will keep on surprising us with such devices, and soon we will see more. As for today, this review is over, and I think this device is worth your attention. I would be also happy to hear your opinion, especially if you are big fan of mobile photography.
