Today we have a chance to talk about something unusual from German watchmaker – Alexander Shorokhoff Flensi. Somehow I missed the original Deep Ding diver watch which served as base for today’s Limited Edition. I am going to talk about green version, but there are several other colors to be available at the same time. The main idea of this novelty is to have the sea landscape on the dial with help of already traditional bright design.

Dial
Yes, you guessed it right, the main thing here is the dial, and it is something different from the previous releases made by the same brand. You might have noticed already that the main layer is made out of mother of pearl. There are are four sections in different color, and somehow they look great together. The joint seam between those “layers” is done in dark color.
Look at this composition under slight angle, and you will see that all fishes and indices are raised over the surface. Yes, such bright “aquarium” is definitely not for everyone, but it has its own charm in such unusual take on all fishes. “60” is here as well, and while it is a traditional Alexander Shorokhoff feature, it could be even more fun to see these digits in sea style too. 🙂 Note that digits are only on the internal bezel, and two indices on “3” and “9” marks in orange color.
Handset is still in diver style, so hours and minutes are quite large elements. Both come in black metallic and orange layer. They are easy to find and even thin seconds hand is also noticeable, even though it takes a bit more time to find it. 🙂 Whole dial is quite calm in terms of additional writings, and you can see only the manufacturer’s logo and “Limited Edition” writing. Yes, date indicator is also here, watchmaker placed it right on the top of “6” index.
Case
It has to be said that the case also plays important role to remind more about steampunk and submarines with divers. At least this is what comes to my mind when I see those exposed screws and quite hefty parts. On the photo above you can see that those are all fully functional parts which actually hold several sections together. This is quite cool design which helps to avoid to clean side edges and also keep it limited only to suitable elements.
There are no shiny surfaces here and even the outer bezel is in green and made out of titanium. Again, I will remind that you can also get this watch in blue, red and green colors. Yes, some would have preferred screws to be in some contrast color, but I think we might see it in future releases. Whole size and dimensions stayed the same and you get here 45mm case which is definitely not for the thin wrists. Weight is also hefty, so you will feel the Alexander Shorokhoff Flensi on your wrist.
As I wrote already, I missed the original diver watch, so for me it came as a nice surprise to see how crowns are redesigned here. Yes, they are finally slightly raised over the edge and easier to handle. Flensi has an extra point for such element as internal bezel will be adjusted with the top crown. There is no problem with performing this action, and even me with my big fingers was quite all right. Note also the special engraving on each one, it is possible to check it from all sides in the video-review.
Strap
Watch comes with rubber strap, what is completely unusual for Alexander Shorokhoff. Color varies depending on the version you will pick, but I have to say that accessory feels smooth and flexible. Double-clasp buckle is also quite hefty. I think this watch should also work with classic rubber or smooth leather options, but this will be something you will have to buy separately.
First Impressions
I managed to spend a bit of time with this watch on Inhorgenta exhibition where it was unveiled. First thing that gets noticed is how bright this watch is. It also constantly changes the shine under the light, and whole dial attracts even more attention. Alexander Shorokhoff Flensi is also quite heavy, but you can see the overall fitment on my wrist. As I mentioned before, this is definitely not the choice of those with thin hands. Dial color and styling are quite bold, but I am sure it will find its own fans. I can name few missed opportunities in terms of cues here and there, for example, “60” mark design and date window.
Internal bezel is always fun to play with, so it is nice to have such part here. I just wish it was a bit more prominent, maybe with “main” marks in white. One can say that maybe it was finished this way intentionally in order to focus your eyes on the dial. I haven’t seen other colors in person, but have to say that green is a good choice for this dial design.
Price and Availability
All this sounds good, but what about the production information? Yes, it is a Limited Edition release, which will be produced in 60 pieces with price of 2800EUR. At first it might look like hefty tag, but how many alternative you can find to the design of Alexander Shorokhoff Flensi? I think it is more of art statement than the watch. Moreover, it is not even true diver watch, so this is not the main selling point here, no. Instead you will get truly beautiful sea composition on your wrist with quite unusual case design. These features are enough to make whole release special, but I also recommend to try the watch in person and see it with your own eyes.
After all, it is always cool to have such conversation timepiece in your collection, and this one is relatively reasonably priced.
