Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon “Tete de Vipere” – yes, it is a quite long name. Nevertheless that’s how new model is called. That’s not just another Limited Edition, watch marks important step for Swiss watchmaker. Newcomer comes as one of Baselworld 2018 novelties and even though it is limited, we had a chance to play with it.

Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon “Tete de Vipere” – да, это довольно длинное название. Тем не менее, именно так было решено назвать новую модель. Это не просто ещё одна ограниченная версия, это часы, которые отмечают важный момент для швейцарской компании. Новинка была представлена в Базеле и, хотя она и лимитированная, нам удалось немного поиграть с ней.

Tete de Vipere

I think the most important thing here is to explain what three words above mean and why they are important. Everybody know COSC certification mark on watches, right? Well, “Tete de Vipere” signifies precision too, but there are several important differences. First of all they evaluate movements in watch cases. In other words, only finished watches undergo tests, and such method makes it more relevant for us, buyers of such watches. Provided pieces are being tested for 16 days in different conditions. Since 2006 only 500 pieces were certified by Besancon Observatory and received “Tete de Vipere” mark.

After this short intro you should understand why this small viper head sign is important on Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon “Tete de Vipere”. As you can guess, new watch is also certified and offers the highest precision. As for the emblem, it comes on bridge and can be seen through transparent caseback.

BB – Big and Blue

Don’t expect small watch here. Case diameter clocks at 45 mm, and watch might look strange on thin wrists. Nevertheless, I can say that it was ok on my hand, even though case thickness will be noticeable with tight sleeves. Whole case comes in dark colors, what helps somehow hide overall dimensions. Moreover, design reminds me of stealth aircrafts. 🙂

Не стоит надеяться на небольшие размеры. Диаметр равен 45 мм, и часы точно будут смотреться странно на тонких запястьях. Тем не менее, я могу сказать, что они были удобными на моей руке, хотя толщина будет заметна в рубашке. Весь корпус выполнен в тёмных цветах, что визуально скрадывает размеры. Также мне это напомнило о стелс-самолётах. 🙂

Buyers will get this watch only with one type of strap – black alligator. Clasp here is made out of titanium, but it would be cool to see some special material for this limited edition. What about carbon or ceramic (even though case is made out of this material)? From the other side some might claim that such design instantly reminds of other Tag models with manufacture movement inside. Well, let’s call it traditional design? 🙂

Покупатели получат часы только с одним вариантом ремня – чёрным крокодиловым. Пряжка здесь изготовлена из титана, но было бы неплохо получить что-то более необычное для таких часов. Как насчёт карбона или керамики (хотя корпус изготовлен именно из этого материала)? С другой стороны, некоторые могут сказать, что подобный дизайн сразу напоминает о других моделях Tag Heuer с мануфактурным механизмом внутри. Назовём это традиционным дизайном? 🙂

As I wrote before, new watch will be limited. Number is set at 155 pieces, and last two digits hint on 55 anniversary of famous Carrera line. There is no doubt that they will sell out fast. Moreover, take a look at photos – it is good that watchmaker decided to choose dark colors for this edition. Instead of some “special rainbow version” we get serious watch with nothing extra. I like this trend and hope that we will see the same styling in future limited editions from Tag Heuer. Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon “Tete de Vipere” just shows what famous watchmaker can achieve, and it’s definitely just a beginning. By the way, price tag will have 19900 EUR on it…

Как я уже писал выше, часы будут лимитированными. Цифра зафиксирована на 155 штуках, последние две цифры намекают на 55-летний юбилей линейки Carrera. Нет сомнений, что они быстро разойдутся в частные коллекции. Вместо какой-то цветной особенной версии мы получили серьёзную модель где нет ничего лишнего. Мне нравится такой подход, надеюсь, что мы увидим такой же дизайн в будущих часах от Tag Heuer. Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon “Tete de Vipere” показывает, чего может достичь знаменитая компания, и это явно только начало. Кстати, ценник будет нести следующие цифры – 19900 EUR…
