Leica M-E Typ 240 Goes to Budget-Class

Two words in the name are not that often seen together. Nevertheless, today we are going to talk about new Leica M-E Typ 240. This fresh model comes as entry ticket for those who would like to try rangefinder camera. German brand decided to lower price a bit and cut some features. Nevertheless, is this newcomer as attractive as bigger brothers? Let’s take a look.

First of all I have to say that this type of cameras is suitable for streetphoto. Nevertheless, you had to shell out quite huge sum in order to have one. New model comes with slightly cut features which are still attractive in Leica opinion.
New model features full frame sensor with 24 megapixel resolution. Sounds ok, but doesn’t amaze you rightaway because there dslr and mirrorless cameras with bigger sensors. This comes combined with maximum ISO equal to 6400. Just like my old Canon, but now you get this specs in 2019 camera. I wonder what made engineers limit sensitivity level in Leica M-E Typ 240. Buffer was increased to 2 Gb from previous 1 Gb in original M240.

Video quality set at FullHD, so I doubt that you will be shooting movues on this camera. All this is not as impressive for techies, but there are few more important things. How about top and bottom panel special paint which was developed for this model. Not enough? Leica M-E Typ 240 also brags with leather covering which should ensure better grip.

Jokes aside, entry-level sounds a bit weird when you have to pay 4000 USD. Yes, there are “accessible” Ferrari models priced more than your Corolla. Well, here we have the same situation. Even though such tag might look unreasonable, I doubt that German brand would suffer from absence of demand. The only question is whether this camera will be bought for photos or just as symbol status…
